PANS/PANDAS

Sudden neuropsychiatric changes that may follow infection or immune activation.

Overview

Understand the diagnosis. Then widen the lens.

PANS describes the abrupt onset of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, severely restricted eating, or other significant behavioral changes in a child. PANDAS is a subset associated with group A streptococcal infection.

Because symptoms can appear quickly and involve several systems at once, evaluation may require coordination across pediatric, neurologic, psychiatric, infectious, and immune care.

Common signs and symptoms

The presentation can be wider than one system.

Sudden obsessive-compulsive behaviors
Severe anxiety or separation anxiety
Tics or unusual movements
Sensory sensitivity
Emotional volatility
Changes in handwriting or school performance
Urinary changes
Loss of previously established skills
Symptoms overlap across many conditions. This list is educational and cannot confirm or exclude a diagnosis.

Factors we may explore

Not a checklist of causes. A map for better questions.

No single factor explains every case. These are clinical layers that may help organize the history and determine what deserves closer attention.

01

Immune and infectious history

Timing around streptococcal illness and other infections can be clinically relevant and should be reviewed carefully.

02

Environmental load

Home, school, travel, water-damaged buildings, and other exposures may be considered in the wider history.

03

Nutritional status

Iron, vitamin D, B vitamins, intake, digestion, and restricted eating can influence resilience and symptom burden.

04

Nervous-system state

Sleep, stress physiology, sensory load, and regulation patterns help place the child’s symptoms in context.

The Aquarian approach

Data becomes useful when it is interpreted in context.

For complex or persistent symptoms, The Reclamation Experience brings your history, existing records, targeted testing, ART, biological data, and nervous-system patterns into one clinical synthesis.

Investigate

Review what has already been done and identify meaningful gaps.

Synthesize

Cross-read the layers instead of treating each result as a separate story.

Sequence

Clarify what deserves attention first, what can wait, and how to reassess.

Testing
